Recently I've been getting into it online fairly often with a bunch of libertarians. Specifically ron paul supporters. How do you deal with these loons? You've been around for a while, so I'm assuming you've dealt with them since Morton Downey Jr. was still a thing.

Agreed. There is a misconception that Global wnmriag means every season should be warmer than usual. In the past few months alone, we've had major rainfall, a flash hailstorm and a tornado in NY. Let's hope it's not too late to halt or reverse the damages. We'll have to brace ourselves for more wacky and destructive weather and El Nino may go loco!

Sharon Begley, science columnist and science editor of Newsweek said that? She didn't say that, no way. I can't beleive she would ever make a claim as absurd as that. I'm a geologist and paleoclimates are my thing. The climate of the earth has never been stable. Ever.

Who is this person? Oh wait she has a BA from Yale. That helps explain her lack of science background and having the temerity to claim that the earth climate has been stable for 12k years. If I had made a claim like that where I work they would fire me, but it seems to be ok at Newsweek. I won't buy that rag anymore. Thanks for the heads up.

It's the same old problem; melting glaciers and snow caps are evidence of climate change only, they are not eveidence that CO2 is the cause. When will climatologists deliver the big hammer, the convincing evidence that CO2 is the cause? When?

That description of the shooting incident on opium just does not sound right. That may be how junkies behave when they cant get their shit but that's not the general kind of behaviour you would normally asociate with opium use. It does sound however much more like alcohol use which was probably going on as well as opium consumption. Just another example of spreading misinformation by convieniently omitting relevant details.

The article itself is no surprise at all. End prohibition now or continue to suffer the consequences of drug financed terrorism and intrenched corruption the whole world over.

Bruce this has nothing to do with your post other than it's anti-war-y nature, but this quote was at the end of an issue of Silver Surfer: Requiem (yeah that's right, comic bookdom's most angsty existentialist super hero is dead...). Surfy had just saved two alien races from eternal war by destroying their war machines and then by destroying their most holy of holy temples (which apparently were ordained by their almighty gods, giving them validation for their hideously conceited and arrogant beliefs) and in 22 pages showed them the error of their ways. Then he... you know... goes off to die.

Anyway here's the quote:
"If sacred places are spared the ravages of war, then make all places sacred. And if the holy people are to be kept harmless from war, then make all peoples holy."

Why do I mention this? Well for one it was far too heady of a philosophical concept for a comic book, but also the quote just seemed really familiar. Have you heard this before somewhere? AND WHERE?!?!?! And if not, enjoy a pithy quote.

This guy has picked apart the first book in the Left Behind series a few pages at a time... time out... (oh good, my housemates are fightin again. I'm sure I'll get good sleep tonight)... and... well he basically rips the book, the authors and their theology a new asshole. But better yet, the blog's author is an evangelical christian (the good kind [I know... I didn't know there was a good kind either]). Anyway I think you'd appreciate his sense of humor, and even if you haven't read the book (I can loan you a copy) the blog is timely, well written and insightful.

At least there's no blood on the walls yet...

This, despite another accusation last week by a woman who claims to have had a sexual relationship with Vitter in 1999. The woman alleges that Vitter visited her for sex "two to three times a week ... between July and November 1999."

But of course there is one other major difference between Larry Craig and David Vitter: the governor of Idaho (Craig's state) is a Republican, and therefore would appoint a Republican to replace Craig if he resigned. However, the governor of Lousiana (Vitter's state) is a Democrat, so the GOP would lose another seat if he were to resign.

And so it's pitchforks-and-torches for Craig, and a standing ovation for Vitter. Nothing to see here - just Republican party politics as usual."
